As an Android Pioneer, you'll delve deep into the Android operating system, customizing and optimizing it to harmonize with BMW’s state-of-the-art hardware.   • Bespoke System Customization: Tailor the Android OS to create a bespoke experience for BMW vehicles, from the kernel up to the user-facing elements.
  • Cross-Layer Optimization: Work across software layers to enhance system performance, collaborating with hardware teams to ensure compatibility and efficiency.
  • Innovative Android Development: Leverage your expertise in Kotlin and Android SDK to develop cutting-edge applications for user-facing and back-end products, electrification, and vehicle connectivity.
  • UI Design and Implementation: Craft user interfaces for Android applications, applying best practices in design principles and patterns for an optimal user experience.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously analyze and enhance the performance and resource utilization of applications, ensuring efficiency and reliability across the full stack.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work closely with cross-functional Scrum teams, sharing ideas and solutions to overcome technical challenges and drive project success.
  • Integration and Testing: Ensure your code integrates smoothly with existing systems and passes rigorous testing protocols, maintaining the high-quality standards Critical TechWorks is known for.

This is a Rockstar Developer role, our take on the classic Software Developer.

Standing as the brick-and-mortar of Critical TechWorks, it plays a crucial role in designing, developing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining our product. You can find out more - and check other Development vacancies - at this link.

Whatever you’re working on, here’s the lowdown on the technical skills you’re likely to have:

  • 3+ years' worth of experience as an android developer.
  • Experience with Kotlin.
  • Proven professional software development experience with the Android SDK, Eclipse or Android Studio.
  • Embedded Android Expertise: understanding of the Android operating system's architecture.
  • C++ and Beyond: Background in C++ and familiarity with other low-level programming languages, essential for system-level development.
  • Experience in Android development patterns: Java OOP, JSON/Rest APIs, and multi-threading tasks.
  • Experience in developing Android UI applications using design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Experience analyzing and improving app performance and resource utilization across the full stack.

  • Embrace agile and its implementation frameworks namely Scrum, to make the most out of all its events and work to keep evolving as a high-performing team.
  • Be available to be a cross-functional team member by using and developing new skills and enabling a fully responsible team able to cover the whole product lifecycle.
  • Use standard software engineering practices and tools like version control, IDEs, data dashboards, to manage and keep a systematic and organized development process.
  • Use state-of-the-art DevOps quality practices and tools such as Continuous Integration /Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to build, analyse, perform automated testing and deployment processes, to ensure a streamlined and reliable development workflow.
  • Run and operate developed software inside and outside working hours if needed, to provide high quality software services (extra compensation will be applicable).
  • Be available to travel abroad for short periods, as required to support all the phases of the product development cycle when needed.
  • Have excellent English oral and written skills. German communication skills will be a plus.
