Sword Health is on a mission to free two billion people from pain.

Today, we hold the majority of industry patents, win 70% of competitive evaluations, and have raised more than $300 million from top venture firms like Founders Fund, Sapphire Ventures, General Catalyst, and Khosla Ventures.

Recognized as a Forbes Best Startup Employer in 2024, this award highlights our focus on being a destination for the best and brightest  talent. Not only have we experienced unprecedented growth since our market debut in 2020,  but we’ve also created a remarkable mission and value-driven environment that is loved by our growing team. With a recent valuation of $3 billion, we are in a phase of hyper growth and expansion, and we’re looking for individuals with passion, commitment, and energy to help us scale our global impact.

Joining Sword means committing to a set of core values, chief amongst them to “do it for the patients” every day, and to always “deliver more than expected” on behalf of our members and clients.

This is an opportunity for you to make a significant difference on a massive scale as you work alongside 900+ (and growing!) talented colleagues, spanning three continents. Your charge? To help us build a pain-free world, powered by AI, enhanced by people — accessible to all.

You will join our dynamic and highly skilled Systems team where you’ll play a pivotal role in the development of medical devices. You'll be at the intersection of hardware engineering, manufacturing, software, quality, and regulatory affairs teams, playing an instrumental role in bringing groundbreaking products from concept to reality, all while enjoying a vibrant and collaborative work environment.

We’re looking for someone with experience developing new devices with the proper mindset of combining a theoretical approach with hands-on prototyping and testing. You’re experienced working on all product stages from research and development to design and manufacture. You will naturally strive for innovation, have sharp analytical skills and have a pragmatic and fast-paced work structure. Creativity, adaptability, and technical knowledge in certain aspects of device development are crucial to this role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the development of our hardware products (medical devices and wellness products) from early concept through launch across cross-functional teams.
  • Create, maintain, and drive clear program and project documentation that’s aligned with medical device and consumer electronics industry standards.
  • Facilitate technical discussions at cross-disciplinary intersections (e.g. Hardware/Firmware, Mechanical/Manufacturing, and Embedded/Quality) to ensure teams work together seamlessly and solve technical challenges early.
  • Manage engineering change processes, with clear documentation communication, and implementation across all stakeholders.
  • Define and drive program roadmaps, managing day-to-day priorities for hardware engineering teams to align with long-term product goals and company milestones.
  • Support strategic initiatives and special projects, working closely with internal teams and contract manufacturers to keep execution smooth and on track.
  • What you need to have:

  • A bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional hardware and software teams through complex product development cycles.
  • A proven track record of managing multi-phase hardware programs—from early concept through to full launch.
  • Experience launching or scaling electronic or electromechanical products (10k–100k+ units), ideally for U.S. or European markets in consumer electronics or medical device industries.
  • What we would love to see:

  • Familiarity with medical device regulatory standards, such as ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, or IEC 60601.
  • Experience working with international suppliers and contract manufacturers, especially in Asia.
  • Familiarity with applying Agile principles to hardware development processes, particularly within regulated environments like medical or wellness technology.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills—you’re comfortable partnering with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and product teams to keep things aligned and moving forward.
  • To ensure you feel good solving a big Human problem, we offer:

  • A stimulating, fast-paced environment with lots of room for creativity;
  • A bright future at a promising high-tech startup company;
  • Career development and growth, with a competitive salary;
  • The opportunity to work with a talented team and to add real value to an innovative solution with the potential to change the future of healthcare;
  • A flexible environment where you can control your hours (remotely) with unlimited vacation;
  • Access to our health and well-being program (digital therapist sessions);
  • Remote or Hybrid work policy.
