Hello (Startup) World!

Hello (Startup) World!

Hello,

Pedro and Tiago here! We want to give you a warm welcome to startupjobs.pt and hope you find it useful in your current and future endeavours.

We intended this platform to provide job seekers with a simple way of finding and comparing the best opportunities in the Portuguese Startup and Scaleup ecosystem, stripped from unnecessary complications. Whether you're a recent graduate or someone exploring a potential career breakthrough in sunny Portugal, know that we do our best to curate the information we post on our website. You can get a glimpse of our thinking process here.

In recent years, the likes of Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal and New York Times have praised Portugal for creating new paths for growth through tech innovation and by attracting top talent. According to data from Startup Portugal (2023), there were over 4,000 startups active in the country, with strong growth prospects (70% were created in the past five years). Portugal's startup ecosystem had an estimated turnover of 2,2 Bn Euros and an economic impact of 22Bn Euros in the 2020-2022 period (Startup Genome). The numbers are impressive for a 10 Million inhab. country: 100+ incubators, 25,000+ direct jobs, 67% survival rate after two years, +13% startups per capita vs. European average. Plus, Portugal is ranked #26 out of 100 countries in StartupBlink's Global startup ecosystem index and #30 out of 132 countries in WIPO's Global Innovation Index. You might have heard about Sword Health, OutSystems or Feedzai - these are some of the 7 Portuguese unicorns that were born over the past years - or Websummit, one of the largest tech conferences in the World.

All these dynamics pose a challenge for those trying to enter the Startup scene, and this is the problem we set out to solve: given most startups' - sometimes - ephemeral nature, how can we help demanding job seekers tell apart 'great' from 'not so great' opportunities?

By providing you with easy-to-compare opportunities in companies that, from our point of view, strike the right balance between potential and robustness, we hope you are able to find your next big break and be happy working in our lovely country.

For now, we wish you the best of luck!

Cheers,
Pedro Domingues Ferreira & Tiago Gaspar Sampaio
