The opportunity:

Uphold is looking for an Analytics Engineer to join our Data team. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity where you’ll get to join a team of engineers, scientists, and analysts who are passionate about data and technology and have a great sense of collaboration and responsibility.
As a key member of the Data Team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing data models and pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence. You’ll bridge the gap between data engineering and analytics, ensuring data is clean, reliable, and accessible for stakeholders across the company to drive informed decision-making, ultimately enabling our company to optimize business processes, empower financial decisions, and drive the product roadmap.

What you'll be doing primarily:

  • Working closely with other data engineers and analytics engineers to define best practices for data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration.
  • Collaborating with business analysts and data scientists to map data fields to hypotheses and curate, wrangle, and prepare data for use in advanced analytical models.
  • Collaborating with engineering and product teams to ensure data collection and data availability.
  • Designing, enhancing, implementing, and monitoring ELT/ETL data pipelines.
  • Owning the transformation and modeling layer of our data stack, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and well-documented datasets for analytics and reporting.
  • Automating processes for gathering and exposing internal data to stakeholders.
  • Optimizing data pipelines and SQL transformations for performance and scalability in a cloud-based environment.
  • Guaranteeing data quality both on live systems as well as offline datasets.
  • Supporting BI and analytics tools (Looker, Metabase) by maintaining efficient data models and ensuring self-service data accessibility.
  • Advocating for best practices in data documentation, version control, testing, and observability.

Required qualifications:

  • Degree, preferred in engineering, computer science, or information systems.
  • Background in analytics engineering, business intelligence, or data engineering with a focus on building data models for analytics and reporting.
  • Experience with large-scale data engineering, namely extracting, transforming, and loading.
  • Experience working with a data warehouse/data lake environment and leveraging data within distributed systems in a cloud-based environment.
  • Strong knowledge and proven experience modeling data on relational and non-relational databases, including dimensional modeling and best practices for scalable data architectures
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and Python.
  • Experience with dbt for transformation workflows and data modeling.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, governance, lineage, and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with methodologies/best practices such as the GitHub Flow, Test Driven Development, Code Coverage, Continuous
  • Testing & Integration.
  • Good analytical, programming, debugging, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and a growth mindset.
  • Team player with the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Fluent written and oral English skills.


Bonus if you have:

  • Knowledge of database and data warehouse systems such as Snowflake, Redshift, or Postgres.
  • Experience maintaining ETL jobs via engines such as Apache Airflow.
  • Familiarity with BI/dashboarding tools such as Looker, Metabase, Tableau, and PowerBI.
  • Experience with LookML for data modeling and transformation in Looker.
  • Experience working with event-driven data architectures and streaming data sources.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Fluency in cryptocurrencies or other digital assets as they are core to our business.
  • Community talks, certifications, and/or blog posts on your interests and research.
  • Open-source project contributions of any kind, such as tools developed to solve specific problems you’ve had, or fixing issues on existing projects.
